Most privacy policies run long because the site behind them collects a great deal. This one is short in substance because MaticPayu collects almost nothing. What follows describes the site exactly as it works today, and it will be updated if that ever changes.
What the site does not do
- There are no accounts and no registration. Nothing on the site requires you to identify yourself.
- There is no newsletter and no mailing list.
- There is no comment system, forum or reader profile.
- There is no advertising of any kind, and no advertising cookies.
- There is no analytics or measurement service, and no tracking cookies.
- No profile of you is built, and nothing about you is sold, rented or shared for anyone else's marketing.
- Pages do not load fonts, videos, maps, social buttons or other material from outside services, so no other company observes your reading by way of this site.
What is unavoidably recorded
Delivering a page to a browser produces a standard request record, exactly as it does on any website. Those records can include the internet address the request came from, the date and time, the page requested, the browser and operating system identification your browser sends, and the referring page if your browser sends one. They are kept for a short period and used only to keep the site available and to investigate abuse, faults and attacks. They are not used to build a picture of an individual reader, they are not combined with anything else, and no attempt is made to work out who you are from them.
The one preference stored on your device
If you choose to reduce motion while reading, that single choice is stored on your own device so the site can apply it on your next visit. It records nothing except that preference, it contains no identifier of any kind, and it never leaves your device. The cookie policy explains how it works and how to remove it.
If you write to the archive
When you send email to contact@maticpayu.com or corrections@maticpayu.com, the archive receives your address, your message and whatever you choose to put in it. That correspondence is used to answer you and, where a message leads to a change in an entry, to keep an internal record of why the entry was revised. It is not used for any other purpose, it is not added to a mailing list, and it is not passed on to any company discussed on the site. Please do not send sensitive personal information by email.
Children
MaticPayu is a general-audience reference work. It is not directed at children and it does not knowingly collect personal information from them. Because there are no accounts, no sign-up and no comment system, there is no ordinary route by which a child could submit personal information to the site. If you believe a child has sent personal information by email, write to contact@maticpayu.com and it will be deleted.
Your rights and choices
Privacy laws in the United States, including in California, and in other countries give readers rights over personal information a site holds about them. These commonly include the right to know what is held, to obtain a copy, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for advertising purposes. This site does not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. In practice the only information that could identify you is an email you chose to send, and you can ask for it to be deleted at any time by writing to contact@maticpayu.com.
Server request records are worth stating honestly. They are kept briefly, they are not attached to a name, and there is usually no reliable way to connect them to a particular person, so a request to see or delete them often cannot be fulfilled in any meaningful way. If you contact the archive about your information, describing what you are asking about will help the request be handled sensibly. This page explains practices rather than offering legal advice, and a reader with a legal question should consult someone qualified to answer it.
Security and how long things are kept
Request records are kept only as long as they are useful for security and reliability, then discarded. Email correspondence is kept only as long as it is needed to answer the message or to document a correction. No system is perfectly secure and no promise of perfect security is offered here, but the site is deliberately arranged to hold as little as possible, which is the strongest protection available to a reader.
